Okay, technically This particular topic deserves it's own board(It is a MASSIVE series) Also, I recommend a readthrough. Be warned tho, if you are offended by Homosexuality, this book series has TWO Homosexual sets of characters. I, of course, follow the idea of "To Each his own", therefore, I have no problem with Homosexuals, as long as they do not try to include me, heh. One set is actually a main character in three books in the series, though. I wish to make up our OWN Heralds, though.
I love this book series, it is one of my favorites. Of course, Tedd Dekker is still better. heh.

the Heralds are a set of Knights that serve the royal Family of Valdemar. They come from all social classes, and are chosen by thier Companion, which is a spirit being that takes the form of a white horse. Heralds are well known far and wide for thier kindness. Thier only enemy is the fanatical sunpriests of the country of Karst.

Herald Abilities: Most heralds have one, or two powers, excluding Herald Mages, which can sometimes be a MASSIVE amount of Powers
Mind Speaking-Projecting your thoughts Mind reading(A weaker form of mind speaking) Firestarting-Causing large amounts of friction to start a fire Fetching-Teleporting objects to you, usually limited by size. Some Fetchers can Fetch up to the size of a Human, rarely Far-sight-Binocular vision for a herald Fore-sight-Seeing into the future, usually helping with planning a battle. This does not mean that the future is set in stone. They see POSSIBILITIES of the future. They could see your army losing, and change the tactic to one that could win, and conditions can change to make you lose STILL. Healing-usually not Chosen as a Herald, Healers have a variety of abilities, from healing the mind, to repairing the body. Aura Sensing-Usually associated with mages, this mind magic lets you see a variety of things, from illness, to magic power. Empathy-Feeling other's emotions.

Actual Magic vs Mind-Magic: Mind Magic is something that is actually an inherited trait. ACTUAL magic, you only inherit the power to SENSE it. Most people with Mind Magic discover it when placed under stress, and odd things happen(AKA, A firestarter blowing up a building while being tortured ::this is actually the beginning to one of my favorite books, Burning Brightly: Most people with ACTUAL magic are actually noticed, and apprenticed by trained mages at young ages. Until the very end of the Valdemarian Heralds series, There are NO mages in Valdemar. In fact, Mages always feel a powerful presence in Valdemar that is directly threatening to them. The last Herald Mage was Vanyel Ashkevron, whom is directly linked to the presence that keeps mages out of Valdemar, as well as linked to the Ghosts in the Forest of Sorrows. His final act was to destroy an entire army of evil beings attempting to invade Valdemar from the north. Magic is limited by ones ability to detect sources. A novice at magic, can only use the magic IN HIS OWN BODY. Meanwhile, an Adept can Tap into Powerful Nodes(thought of as a "Lake") of magical energy that pool in certain places. Adepts are the most powerful mages, and generally wreak complete and utter destruction if improperly trained. They can also become "Trapped" in Nodes, mentally unable to find thier own body. Masters, apprentices, and Journeymen have varying degrees of power as well.

odd Words in the world of Valgarth:
Kaled'a'din-The Forerunners to both Hawkbrothers and Shin'a'in, also, a rarely used word.
Perchi-Kaled'a'din word for a prostitute. Obviously a BIG insult.
Trondi'irn-A healer that deals in animals, also Kaled'a'din
Kestra'chern-A Kaled'a'din... somewhat of a massage-therapist/psychiatrist. Most people mistake them for Perchi, though, which is comletely inacturate, but the kind and patient Kestra'Chern do not correct them
Shey'a'chern-The Shin'a'in word for Homosexual. It was brought to Valdemar when Vanyel Ashkevron became a driving force in the country, due to the fact that he actually WAS Shey'a'chern. It is usually just abbrieviated "Shey".
Shin'a'in-The Nomads of the Dhorisha Plains, which are Plains of a Giant Crater that was caused by unknown means. The Shin'a'din gaurd thier territory-nobody is allowed in too far- this s assumed to be because they do not wish to share the secret of thier only trade, Horse-Breeding, which they are VERY good at. They are also excellent Horseback Archers. In otherwords, disobey them in the Dhorisha Crater, and you die.
Hawk Brothers-The Mysterious Gaurdans of the forbidden Pelagris Forest, which hunters like to sneak into for the exotic-yet EXTREMELY dangerous- beasts that roam throughout. The Hawkbrothers all have Semi-Sentient Birds bound to them. The only known Herald before they ages of Queen Seleney to make contact withthem is Vanyel Ashkevron, yet they have been known to take pity on people injured by magic, and victims of Bandits.

No, we will not control an entire country. By our own characters, I mean create stories based off of Mercedes lackey's worldof Valgarth, with our own add in characters, or even adding characters that were mentioned, but never elaborated on(Aka, the Founder of the country of Valdemar)
